A small town.
A borrowed camera.
A hundred million friends.

Alejo Igoa grew up in an Argentine town of about six thousand people, was bullied as a child, and taught himself to design and program as a young teenager. He went on to become the first Spanish-language creator to pass 100 million subscribers on YouTube, and in 2026 was recognised by Guinness World Records as having the largest Spanish-language channel in the world.

Misiones

He was born on 23 August 1996 in Posadas, the capital of the province of Misiones in north-eastern Argentina, and grew up in Concepción de la Sierra, a small town nearby. He is the second of four children of Sergio and Gabriela Igoa.

He has spoken openly about being bullied at school, which made him shy and introverted. “I suffered as a child,” he told Forbes Argentina; “now I love to create.” He spent much of his time online, watching international creators and learning how the internet worked.

Self-Taught

At about thirteen he taught himself programming and graphic design from online resources, and began working through international internet forums, designing logos and setting up websites for clients he never met. It was an early lesson in reaching an audience far beyond his town.

He moved to Rosario, one of Argentina’s largest cities, to study architecture, but left the course.

The Channel

According to Argentine reporting, he asked his parents for a camera, saying he wanted to take photographs. In fact he wanted to make videos. At about seventeen he recorded his first video, titled “Solo sé vos mismo” (“Just be yourself”), and uploaded it without telling anyone.

He opened his channel in earnest in January 2014. He learned how YouTube paid creators, and gradually made his production more professional, moving from homemade videos to elaborate sets and a large team.

The Format

From early on he aimed his content at children, teenagers and families. His videos are built around challenges, competitions and games, often with friends and a regular cast, in colourful, high-energy productions. He has made heavy use of YouTube Shorts, which carried his videos to viewers across Latin America and beyond.

His approach is deliberately family-friendly and positive, echoing the message of that first video. That made his channel something parents were comfortable letting children watch, which helped it grow across the Spanish-speaking world.

Records

At the end of 2025 his channel passed 100 million subscribers, making him the first Spanish-language creator to reach that figure. In February 2026 he received YouTube’s Red Diamond Creator Award, given to channels with 100 million subscribers, becoming the first Spanish-speaking creator to receive it.

In March 2026 Guinness World Records recognised him with two records: the most subscribers for a Spanish-language YouTube channel, and the most subscribers for a Spanish-language entertainment channel. By then he had more than 120 million subscribers and one of the dozen largest channels in the world.

On Stage

In 2026 he took his channel to the stage with El Show de Alejo Igoa at the Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires. All seven performances sold out, drawing more than 70,000 people. The production involved more than a hundred people, including about thirty performers, and it was during these shows that he received his Guinness certificates on stage.

What He Shows

His story is a sign of how much the geography of fame has changed. A generation ago, a young entertainer from a small town in Misiones would have needed to move to Buenos Aires, find an agent and be chosen by a television channel. Igoa built his audience directly, from home, and reached more people than most television stations ever will.

The Spanish-Speaking Audience

Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, with around half a billion native speakers across Spain and the Americas, and Latin America has some of the highest YouTube usage anywhere. For years, however, the biggest channels in the world were mostly in English or Hindi. Igoa’s rise showed how large a creator working only in Spanish could become.

He has also inspired a generation of Latin American creators by showing that it is possible to build a global career without leaving one’s own country, or even one’s own province. In interviews he has often returned to his roots in Misiones and to the idea that where you start does not decide where you finish.

The measure of him is the first video. A shy teenager who had been bullied told his audience to be themselves, and built the largest Spanish-language channel in the world on that message.
